Student accommodation shortage blamed on fee ‘hurdle’ – Aberdeen

A student leader in Aberdeen claimed yesterday that landlords were being kept out of the accommodation market by the soaring cost of fees charged by the council.

Robin Parker, president of Aberdeen University Student Association, raised the concerns at a meeting of the local authority’s licensing committee. A report to the meeting had shown that the price of a three-year “house in multiple occupation” licence in the city had risen from £237 in 2006 to £1,200 this year, for a three or four-bedroom flat.
