Student accommodation earmarked at former Bath gas works site off Upper Bristol Road

A former gas works site near the centre of Bath could be transformed into a block of student flats.

The student accommodation earmarked to be built on derelict land next to Windsor Bridge could get the go ahead next year.

The student development plans consist of 394 bedrooms along with access to the towpath, a car park, cycle storage and landscaping.

The application has been submitted by Westmark (Bath) Limited, part of the UK&European group which has owned the land since 2004.

Exhibition documents read: UK&European is proposing to redevelop this derelict former industrial site which has blighted a significant gateway to the city for many years adding “”the proposals are for a scheme of purpose-built student accommodation, to form part of the allocation allowed within the Bath Western Riverside development.

The land owners believe student accommodation would be the best way to develop the brownfield site. Building private residential homes or office space had been ruled out due to the requirements for parking spaces which the developers consider would have a severe negative impact on nearby roads and existing residents and businesses….
