Gateshead shopping centre revamp criticised

A huge scheme to replace a town’s main shopping centre risks repeating the mistakes of the 1960s, it is claimed.

On Friday, Gateshead councillors will be asked by planners to approve an array of proposals by SpenHill Developments, the commercial property arm of Tesco, for the Trinity Square area of the town.

The site includes an existing Tesco store and the area of the demolished Trinity Square shopping complex that incorporated the former Get Carter multi-storey concrete car park.
