Leicester Planning rule could cap number of student flats

The number of students living in two areas could be capped under proposed planning guidelines.

Leicester City Council is looking at drawing up proposals which would give it more power to turn down imposing or inappropriate student housing developments in Westcotes and Castle wards.

The idea was put forward by mayor Sir Peter Soulsby, who said more needed to be done control the number of student homes and the scale of purpose-built accommodation blocks.

A six-week consultation will be launched in December to give businesses, developers and residents the chance to have their say on the future of student housing in the city …
