Work on the tallest building in Plymouth will start next summer

A tower block of student housing – which will dwarf the Civic Centre – has been given the go-ahead and building will start next summer.

At 78 metres and 22 storeys high, the redevelopment of Beckley Court will make it the tallest building in the city. By comparison, the Civic Centre is 14 storeys and 53 metres high.

It was waved through by council chiefs after they received just one letter in opposition to the ambitious project.
