Building Virtual Res Life Communities: Digital Natives do not exist

Imagine for a moment…

It’s September 2020 and COVID-19 is but a distant memory. Eager students and staff have returned to university and residence life departments are knee deep delivering welcome initiatives. To the untrained eye, not much has changed. However, programming schedules now include options to participate digitally. Evolved from the scramble to move activity and support online during the pandemic, the virtual res life community was born. Anecdotal feedback suggests participation is good, there is an appetite for more and many wonder why we didn’t think of it before. The general consensus is “We’re not surprised, students are digital natives, this is who they are.”
