Plans in for major Belfast student accommodation scheme

Plans have been submitted to build a 340-bed student accommodation development in Belfast. The project, which also comprises retail and office space, involves demolishing buildings on the capital’s Queen Street, College Street and Wellington Place with a 14-storey scheme earmarked to replace them.

The proposal submitted on behalf of the Watkin Jones Group and Lacuna Developments is in regard to properties at 29 Wellington Place, 24-30 College Street and 41-49 Queen Street.

Buildings at the addresses would be demolished with the façade of each retained and in their place a new development would be built comprising a mix of five, seven and 14 storeys at the various frontages.

The accommodation element of the project would be made up of 340 units; 93 individual studios and 247 en suite study bedrooms.
