Cambridge pubs could make way for Student flats
Pubs in Cambridge remain under threat in 2013, with plans going in to turn two former hostelries into student accommodation.
Bids to convert The Zebra in Maids Causeway and redevelop The Ranch in Histon Road – formerly the British Queen – will be the first major test of new rules designed to protect pubs from bulldozers.
Both applicants argue the demand for student accommodation outweighs the need for pubs, but will have to demonstrate the pub is no longer required despite “all reasonable efforts” to preserve it …
