Plans in for 16-storey Student Digs tower in Newcastle

Plans have been submitted to build a 16-storey student accommodation tower in the centre of Newcastle. If given the go-ahead the project would involve demolishing a four-storey office block considered to have a “”tired”” look in the context of surrounding properties.

The proposal put forward by Crosslane Student Living is in relation to the existing Technopole Building.

The company wishes to demolish the property and in its place build a single student accommodation property comprising 16 storeys in an H-shape. The southern wing of the proposed building includes a sloped section from levels ten to 16 which is intended to add visual interest to the façade.

The building would comprise 462 student bed spaces made up of 168 studios and 294 bed spaces arranged in clusters.

The Technopole Building which currently occupies the application site is considered to be under occupied and has been for a considerable period of time.
