Plans drawn up to transform Linthorpe Road Middlesbrough site into towering new student flats
Major plans to transform a key central Middlesbrough site into shops and student flats have been put forward.
Coventry-based 2020 Property Developments is seeking planning permission to transform land on Linthorpe Road.
The site, next to The Venue concert hall and opposite the Swatters Carr pub is currently a public space, with benches and trees.
But developers are seeking to turn the site – which they say is plagued by yobs – into a multi-storey mixed-use development.
The firm’s application states: The site is situated in a very sustainable part of the town and provide good quality student accommodation in close proximity to the university. The site recently has become a nuisance with anti-social behaviour.
The striking design has been generated around the concept of “stacking” three horizontal “streets” vertically as well as stepping the blocks forward to maintain light to neighbouring properties and project forward on to Linthorpe Road….
