At last… Inverness gets its university
University status has finally been granted to the University of the Highlands and Islands by Privy councillors, 20 years after the project was first launched.
The move means the institute has cleared the final hurdle and all that remains is for the Scottish Government to rubber stamp its approval of what will be the country’s newest university – a process which is expected to follow on quickly.
It is a landmark development for the whole region but particularly Inverness, which is hoping to attract thousands of students to the planned new campus at Beechwood and establish it as a centre of research …
