Cambridge 92 new student rooms get the go-ahead

Cambridge City Council’s planning committee today unanimously granted permission for a fifth storey to be added to Selwyn College’s Cripps Court building in Grange Road creating a further 50 student rooms.

The committee also approved an application to transform the former Wessex Place care home on the corner of St Lukes Street and Magrath Avenue – off Victoria Road – into 42 ensuite rooms for students at Trinity College.

The meeting of the Guildhall heard that adding a new storey to the 1960s Cripps Court building would not add height to the existing four-storey building – currently accommodating 35 per cent of students at Selwyn College – as the new accommodation would be created by ‘infilling’ between the block’s penthouses …
