Cardiff controversial plans to build student flats approved

A controversial proposal to build almost 250 students flats on empty land in Cardiff has been narrowly passed by the city council.

Developer Reliant Building Contractors applied for outline planning permission to build six three-storey blocks of flats containing 249 student bedrooms, and a three-bedroom wardens house, on land behind Mynachdy Road in Gabalfa.

The plans first went before the council’s planning committee last month, but a decision was deferred after concerns were raised about the scale of the development, and the fact there were just 19 on-site parking spaces – two of which would be disabled spaces, and another two reserved for wardens …
