The Unite Group plc, the UK’s leading owner, manager and developer of student accommodation, has received resolution to grant planning permission for its 416-bed student accommodation development in Bristol city centre, incorporating the conversion of the former Georgian hospital building into 62 rented residential homes (‘Old BRI’).
The site occupies a prime location in Bristol city centre and will provide much-needed accommodation for students when delivered for the start of the 2021/22 academic year. Unite is in advanced discussions with the University of Bristol for a long-term nomination agreement on the scheme.
This forms part of a wider University Partnership discussion with the University of Bristol covering around 3,000 beds. This will include a large proportion of Unite’s existing operational assets in the city following targeted investments and the Company’s 650-bed development in close proximity to the University’s new Temple Quarter campus …
Harrison Street, an alternative real asset investment firms dedicated to the Education, Healthcare and Storage sectors, and Linkcity, part of the global construction and services group Bouygues Construction, are to develop a 491-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme (PBSA) in Canterbury, UK.
The development will provide best-in-class student accommodation and will be the second development that Harrison Street has done as part of a joint venture agreement with Linkcity’s Uliving brand. Bouygues UK has been appointed as the main contractor for the scheme.
The student accommodation will comprise two six-storey buildings with 22 studios and 469 en-suite bedrooms in cluster apartments and there will also be a gym, study rooms, roof terrace, bicycle storage and on-site car parking. It forms part of The Riverside, a broader regeneration masterplan developed by Linkcity in partnership with Canterbury City Council that includes a cinema complex, retail and restaurant offerings and new homes. Close proximity to these facilities should prove popular with students and will further help set the development apart from other PBSA properties. Located in central Canterbury, the property will provide easy access to Christ Church University, University for Creative Arts and the University of Kent. The project is expected to complete ready for the 2021/22 academic year and will be managed by Sodexo Student Living and Uliving. The development will form part of one of Harrison Street’s pan- European investment strategies …
A much-debated apartment building in the Fenway has won the blessing of the Boston Planning & Development Agency Thursday.
The BPDA board approved Scape North America’s plan for a 15-story, 451-room apartment building on Boylston Street near Fenway Park. Originally conceived as Boston’s first student housing development independent of any particular university, Scape shifted gears after neighbors pushed back against a dorm on the site, and decided to open it up to the general market.
As part of the terms reached with the BPDA, Scape agreed to “actively work to avoid” leasing more than 25 percent of units to undergraduate students …
